I Second That Emoticon

Allllll–righty then. Looks like I may have stirred things up a bit with my last post.

Family members have been calling to check on me. Friends near and far are sending “Cheer Up Chick” emails. They are forwarding inspiring stories of people who have lost their homes and overcome great burdens. I am getting emails with links to websites that only promote good news stories.

A ‘Hang In There Kitty’ poster mysteriously appeared on the windshield of my car…someone left a basketful of puppies on my front porch…and a unicorn was tied to the tree in my front yard. The local weatherman showed a picture of a rainbow in the afternoon sky as he winked at the screen and said, “This one goes out to you, Chick.”

smile And I have never received so many emails with smiley faces. Grown men wielding the smiley face. What madness have I created? Please people, I beg of you. ENOUGH WITH THE EMOTICONS.

In all seriousness, thank you for all the well wishes, chipper notes and trippy smiley faces. I love them all and I love the sentiment behind each one.

I have received a lot of reaction to yesterday’s post, but not all of it positive. There was some negative feedback and quite a few unsubscription notices — even more than when I did the post about the mystery vomit on the Professor’s boat. I assume these people were offended by my foul language, and I humbly apologize for my crass use of expletives.

Ha! Sorry, I could barely get that out with a straight face. To hell with those pansies.

Because the truth is I have received tons of inspiring emails from people telling me that they are ready to LIGHT THIS SHIT UP!! Apparently I’m not the only one fed up with the constant barrage of doom & gloom. People are out the door and hitting the water. I love it. You got the notion and you put the plan in motion.

I’ve heard from people in Mississippi who are heading to Arkansas this weekend in search of trout. People are driving to the Texas coast for redfish. Lots of people say they are venturing out rain or shine or snow. And their emails all close with LET’S LIGHT THIS SHIT UP.

One of my favorite emails was from a regular reader in Hawaii who caught his first fish of 2009 on his brand new flyrod. Pretty good stuff right here:

So thanks for lighting a fire under me friends. I’m catching some silver wings outta Austin tomorrow headed for the Gulf Coast. Not sure if fishing is on the docket this weekend but I intend to LIGHT THIS SHIT UP and trip the light fantastic. What about you? Can’t wait to swap stories….

  2. Well whatever made u get out of it,,the puppies..the unicorn or the unending moticons..it was all worth it..Hope u have a gud time out there!!!

  3. Ooooo very-well-shaped, young, refined, graceful, and definitely NOT rednecky woman-girl chick…

If I was in Austin, and couldn’t fish, and hell-bent on lightin’ some shit up, I’d go play me some Chicken Shit Bingo at Ginny’s Little Longhorn, whilst imbibing a steady stream of Lone Star. ‘Course, I’d likely be sneezin’ my head off this time of year, and more apt to burn shit down, than light shit up, but that’s just me.

    Tight lines!

Emoticon-free and lightin’ shit up since well before Little Ed’s mama got her tit caught in the wringer.

  4. Let the pansies go! We don’t need no stinkin’ pansies here!
Well FFC, it is nearly 70 degrees here in Bama and we are headed out in a few in search of some smallies!

    LET’S LIGHT THIS SHIT UP!

  5. Standin’ dry in the river with the rain comin’ down, one fish to hand, and a great time. Missed the BWO hatch, but loved all of it. Can’t wait to fish in the rain again.

  6. Its a great article which shares the experience at Hawaii beach who caught his first fish of 2009 on his brand new flyrod. Pretty good stuff right here.
