Rockstars and Rocks and Stars

September has been a whirlwind month with my “FFC Turns 40 World Domination Birthday Tour”. My head is spinning with all the tales I have to share.

It all started in Atlanta with a fun-filled Labor Day weekend, cheering for the Tarheels in the Georgia Dome. Then the following weekend, Little Chick and I ventured up to Dallas for a big weekend with friends that centered around a trip to the new Texas Stadium for the countdown to the Super Bowl and the Tim McGraw concert.

We were very lucky to have these swanky VIP passes that granted us rockstar access to the Cowboys locker room before the concert where we were hobnobbing with Jerry Jones and Roger Staubach. Little Chick got to check out Tony Romo’s locker plus have a quick meet & greet with Tim McGraw. He was so sweet to her as she politely said, “I loved you in The Blind Side!”

Feeling pretty special we ventured to our 2nd row seats and settled in for the show. It kicked off with a one-hour presentation about the history of the Cowboys including appearances from Dallas Cowboy football legends such as Tony Dorsett, Charles Hailey, Darren Woodson, and the man Little Chick knows as the Champion of Dancing With The Stars…Emmitt Smith.

Emmett gave the cue for the massive pyrotechnics show and out came the headline act, our dear friend from the locker room, Tim McGraw.

And just when we thought the night couldn’t get any more over the top, it did.

Little Chick had her nose pressed against the stage singing along to his song “Last Dollar (Fly Away)” that she had only learned the night before. Thank heavens she listened to it on repeat and had it down pat. Because before I knew it, Tim McGraw came over to her, knelt down, held her hand, put the mic in front of her and had her sing the chorus!! Twice!!

It was the wildest moment of my life. Hearing my daughter’s voice bellowing out of the speakers at a packed Texas Stadium. The whole thing was on the jumbotron (largest tv screen in the world) so people recognized her and were congratulating her all night.

Big Thanks to my friend in Big D who hosted us for the weekend and the concert. Truly once in a lifetime. Best birthday present I could have imagined.

Or was it?

Two days later I left behind the glow of Little Chick’s rockstar moment and ventured to Mobile for Phase III of my birthday celebration. In fact I was there last week for the actual day.

It was a wonderful day. Special messages from friends and family. Romantic birthday dinner plans with the Professor. Here we are kicking things off before heading to dinner with vino and a few gifts…

When OUT OF THE WILD TARHEEL BLUE YONDER, The Professor gets down on one knee and proposes with a dreamy rock.

That’s right! We are getting married!!

Married? Married!

We went on to our dinner and I’ve pretty much had my head in the clouds and stars in my eyes ever since.

While the September birthday tour hasn’t included any fishing, I am not anxious about it because I have just locked in a fishing partner for life. A good one too. Plus we have a Montana trip on the books this fall, so this rockstar, gussied-up birthday month will soon fade into the background and I will be back in waders and fleece before you know it.

Hasta 30s. 40 rocks.

Forty rocks. Fifty rocks. And I’m hopin’ 60 rocks. Well, no wonder I haven’t heard a peep from you. With a new BFF like Tim McGraw, an upcoming recording contract for Little Chick and a handsome fly-fishing fiancée, I can’t blame you for having your head in the clouds. Oh, and in the midst of it all, you kicked butt in the TWS. You have had a good year, my friend. Sending big congratulations your way. Let me know when you’re in Montana, my fly-fish guide son may be there. I’ll hook you guys up. You’d love Griffin and his fly-fishing fiancé Grace.
