Tastes Like Chicken

I don’t know what it says about me that I gravitate toward places that have chicken pooping competitions. Tomorrow the Professor and I head down to Belize for a little romance & little bonefishing. (For you non-fisher types those are separate activities. Geez! Pervs.) And I imagine we’ll have to spend Wednesday night at the legendary San Pedro Chicken Drop. Which of course is a knockoff (if it’s the other way around I can’t possibly admit it) of our Sunday tradition right here in Austin TX at Ginny’s Little Longhorn: Chicken Shit Bingo.

Yes, I did take the Professor to hear Dale Watson play at Chicken Shit Bingo on his very first trip to visit me in Austin when the courtship was brand new. Can we say bonjour romance? I think somewhere in the archives there’s a post about that weekend.

Okay, so I just looked at the old post and two things come to mind:

    1. 1) I really really miss Cross Canadian Ragweed.
    2. 2) Who knew that guy visiting for the weekend would become my husband one day!?

Then again, I did take him to Chicken Shit Bingo. And there were free chili dogs in a crockpot about two feet from the chicken cage. Practically a love potion, how could he resist that kind of charm.

So we’ll let you know how the San Pedro version compares to our beloved Austin ritual. I’m no soothsayer but I predict there will be Belikins instead of Lone Stars…just spitballin’ here. I will report back to yall after this much-needed relaxing vacation! Fingers crossed it won’t be boneless.

Austin TX and San Pedro Belize are the only two places that have chicken pooping competitions. True or False?

  1. run don’t walk to Chicken Shit Bingo! Ginny’s is one of the greatest dive bars in existence. I love that austin has things like chicken shit bingo, but I love it even more that everyone here cherishes it. only austin.

    thanks for stopping in!

  2. fantastic idea. if I can get my hands on that thing, pluck a feather, and smuggle it back through customs, would someone tie a trout fly for me? how much fun to catch a missouri river brown next summer on a feather from the san pedro chicken drop in belize

  3. Hmmmm…..I have 18 birds at the Dome on the Range, and there are neighbors around with still more. Maybe we should start a new Montana tradition in that town which has to be a smidge bit close to Austin crazy (Craig). Whataya think Christine? Uncle Joe’s Chicken Shit Bingo? That would be a hoot in the summer.
